Integrity Institute Submits Response to the European Commission's Call for Evidence on the Protection of Minors Online

On September 30th, 2024, the Integrity Institute submitted a response to the European Commission's call for evidence on the 'Guidelines to Enforce the Protection of Minors Online', pertaining to recommendations and best practices for child safety online via the Digital Services Act.

The draft was built by our research team with evidence and best practices crafted by the community. Our submission highlights the importance of including recommendation systems as a cross cutting risk, how the commission can think about reasonable, proportionate and effective mitigations, and a focus on platform design rather than explicit content moderation or age verification mandates. We connected to a number of our previous reports and best practices such as the deck we made for the US Congress during the child safety hearing earlier this year.
