Integrity Institute Submits Response to Ofcom’s Illegal Harms Consultation

On February 23, 2024, the Integrity Institute submitted a comprehensive response to Ofcom's Illegal Harms Consultation, pertaining to the Online Safety Act.

In alignment with our dedication to information integrity on digital platforms, our submission focuses on urging platforms and policymakers to address the roots of illegal harms rather than solely focusing on mitigating their effects. Key elements of our submission include our insights into risk assessments, platform design, and guidance on child safety considerations into the Online Safety Act. We highlight the need for robust metrics, design features, and platform defaults that actively contribute to a safer online experience for users of all ages. Our comments seek to inform the shaping of policies that will effectively combat illegal harms while promoting transparency, accountability, and responsibility among online platforms.

Thank you to our community members who got involved. We look forward to participating in Ofcom’s second consultation on child safety later this year.
